Who
we are

Storm & Strength Therapeutic Services is a small private practice located in Armidale NSW.
We provide services in the New England region, as well as via telehealth Australia-wide.

Our clinic specialises in assisting children and teenagers and we’re passionate about arming families with the strategies and tools they need to best support their children. Our holistic approach includes evidence-based positive behaviour support techniques, emotional support and therapy to both young people and their parents. This ensures we’re working with the family unit as a whole, helping you build capacity to not only survive the storm, but thrive with your newfound strength.

We are available to support families who are NDIS participants, as well as private fee for service.

Mental Health Wellbeing

We so often get asked the question – “what is it you do exactly?”

The formal answer is… We’re here to support individuals and families with therapy – which is the process of drawing on clinical skills to resolve psychological, social and environmental problems. We help our clients develop skill replacement techniques, drawing on therapeutic models and evidence-based practice. Ultimately, we’re here to help you improve your quality of life. To do that, we believe working with families in a holistic manner is crucial – it’s also something we’re extremely passionate about. In our experience, a teenager's engagement with support services can sometimes decrease, that’s why supporting parents in this lifespan stage is extremely important.  Seeking therapy will develop your understanding of what drives your child's emotions. From there, we’ll explore those emotions together, developing tools and strategies to improve family wellbeing, psychosocial outcomes for your child, all while supporting positive family relationships.

Support & Accountability

Storm and Strength provides professional supervision and mentoring to social workers and professionals within the human service sector including NDIS, Mental Health and Child Safety Clinicians.  We’ll work together to further advance your knowledge and skills within your specialist role.

The main reasons for seeking supervision include:

  • Advancing professional skills and abilities

  • Having a safe space to debrief, reflect and learn

  • Opportunity to receive constructive feedback and support to navigate identified issues

  • Implementing professional boundaries

  • Stress management, wellbeing, and self-care

Active participation in professional supervision is a core practice standard for social workers, as outlined in the AASW Practice Standards (2013) and the AASW Code of Ethics (2020). Professional supervision makes a pivotal contribution toward enhancing professional skills, engaging in professional learning and ensuring quality, ethical and accountable services as per AASW Practice Standards. Accredited Social Workers require a minimum of 10 hours professional supervision per financial year. Clinical social work supervision aims to refine professional practice frameworks, understand macro and practice theories, address ethical dilemmas and support professional integrity and development.

Meet Haley

Her story

Haley is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, registered with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).  Haley has 15-years’ experience working directly with young people, working with hundreds of families countrywide who have one major thing in common. They’re struggling to manage their children’s needs and, when seeking help, their support network is extremely limited.

Haley has personally been impacted by family members who have struggled with low self-esteem, behavioural issues at school and misunderstood diagnosis.  Haley has seen people she loves struggle with not having the support they need. She believes families deserve access to the kind of tools that will enable them to better support their children, nurture them and help them grow.

That’s why she does what she does - and that’s why she has designed this holistic support service.

Haley’s career so far…

For the past 15 years Haley has worked in both the Government and NGO sectors. Working in roles that have seen her develop, implement, monitor and review individual care plans, while also managing and maintaining holistic physical and emotional wellbeing in a therapeutic setting.

Haley specialises in supporting people with Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Intellectual Disability.  Haley is trained in, but not limited to: Positive Behaviour Support, Complex Trauma, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Clinical Assessments (Vineland-3, Whodas, Pedicat), Relaxation Strategies, Parenting Skills, Mental Health First Aid and Eating Disorders.

If you’d like to read more about Haley’s work background, you can find her full career history on LinkedIn.

Haley’s understanding, support, and expertise has been invaluable.
Haley hears and understands what we are going through and has given us the support, care and confidence to acknowledge and manage our own emotional and mental wellbeing.
This has helped us support our child’s emotional needs, and when coupled with Haley’s real and relatable techniques and tools, we have become better at managing the behaviour calmly and consistently. What I love is that Haley explains things in a way that you relate to and understand, then remember when it really counts!
Haley’s help has resulted in new behaviours and ways of communicating, and the chance for us to connect with our child in more positive ways.
